PST Import

This guide explains how to import emails from Microsoft Outlook PST (Personal Storage Table) files into MyEmailVault.

Limitations

  • Password-protected PST files are not supported. If your PST file is password-protected, you must remove the password before importing.

Setup Steps

1. Create an Ingestion Source

In MyEmailVault, navigate to Ingestions and click Create New. Select PST Import as the provider.

2. Enter a Name

Give the source a descriptive name (e.g., "John's Outlook Archive 2023").

3. Provide the PST File

You can import a PST file using one of two methods:

Option A: Upload File

Click Upload File and select the PST file from your computer. The file will be uploaded to MyEmailVault for processing.

Option B: Local Path

If the PST file is already accessible on the server filesystem, enter the full file path in the Local Path field. This avoids the need to upload large files over the network.

4. Save

Click Save to create the ingestion source. MyEmailVault will begin parsing the PST file and importing all emails, including their folder structure and attachments.

What Happens Next

The source status will show Importing while the PST file is being processed. Once all emails have been extracted and archived, the status will change to Imported.

PST imports are one-time operations. Unlike IMAP or API-based sources, there is no ongoing sync. To import additional PST files, create a new ingestion source for each file.

Notes

  • Folder structure from the PST file is preserved in the archive.
  • Attachments are extracted and stored alongside the email content.
  • For very large PST files, the import process may take some time. You can monitor progress on the Ingestions page.
